Strange A7N8X-X problem

Marc VanT

Here's a weird one,
My computer can't recognize 1 of the hdd's at times. It will boot just
fine and recognize both hdd's but sometimes windows xp will hang because one
of the drives disappears. when I reset the computer it does not recognize
Second IDE Master drive and comes up with an error, 80 pin conductor not
installed. Power down completely and it boots just fine with both drives
present.

Also it sees my cpu as 1250 instead of 2800+ sometimes. I updated bios to
1007 and still no change tried reseting CMOS, still no change it happens on
a daily basis. Is my Motherboard fried?

A7N8X-X
2800+ cpu
1GB ram
2 80gig hdd's
1cd burner, 1 dvd burner

I think the 80 wire cable is very important. You should get one and
see if it helps the problems you are seeing.

One other possible reason is your existing IDE cable may need to be
reseated or replaced.

Looks like your fsb is set to 100 try 166

check the pin in the mobo for the 100fsb and the 133 166 200fsb pins

plus go in the bios and check it out.

For the drive i got use the nForce_3.13_WinXP2K_WHQL_international
i got to drive one is a maxtor dimonmax plus 9 80gigs
the auther is a western digital 40 gigs.
not much compatible at first time but now it works. ????

I have replaced the cable, still having the same problem. As for the fsb it
has not been changed. it's just the MoBo sees the 2800+ most of the time,
but sometimes it posts as 1250. weird. I do have the latest drivers. I'm
thinking it's a hardware issue

Could be the PS is not getting the voltages up and stable fast enuf,
just another swag.

Components do fail, and electronics typically fail early on (in first
few days usually) tho it is not uncommon for the failure to take place
after a few months (thermal cycles produce plenty of
expansion/contraction with each heating/cooling cycle resulting in
mechanical failure of weak spots in circuit boards and board level
components). It could be you have a failed capacitor (not unusual
given the lesser quality stuff that rolls out of the far east at
times) somewhere in the system, e.g., the PS or in the mobo.

I hate troubleshooting problems like you are having as it can be just
about anything causing the problem. Try another PS, try some other
RAM, try swapping anything that is easy for you to swap out if you
have backup hardware (spare ram or PS laying around).
