Storage capacity of the inbox.

I have several clients who use thieir Outlook Inbox for storing and keeping
all messages they recieve. Is there an upper limit to the amount of
information (i.e. number of emails) that can be kept in the inbox?

Hello steve,

Yes. The limit will depend, however, upon a lot of factors including what
version of Outlook you're using and whether or not they have an Exchange
server or are just using Personal Folder Files (PST).

It's a really inefficient way to work, though. Is there some reason why
they aren't moving these messages into sub-folders and archiving them off
as they age?

before outlook 2003, 2 gig. With outlook 2003, let's just say they give you
enough rope to hang yourself.

Outlook 97-2002 with large table support enabled, 65,000 items per folder
and 65,000 folders. Of course, the upper limit on total storage is 2 gigs
(in practice 1.87 gigs)

If using Outlook 2003, I don't believe there is a per folder storage limit
but the default limit for total storage is 20 gigs. That can be upped by a
registry change to the theoretical upper limit of 32 terrabytes.
