For the record, this uses the challenge-and-response email proxy
paradigm, if anyone's interested (or not interested) in that method
of mail access control:

"When a message arrives from an unknown user the message is held and a
reply generated and sent back to the sender asking them to reply back
with a subject line that contains a keyword, this keyword is the letters
KSF followed by a short serial number.

If they reply back, all future messages from that person will pass
through the filter, and all presently held messages from that email
address will be released."

Thanks Ken. I have been wanting to take a look at a few
challenge/response programs sometime. I will add yours to my list.

I am still not 100% clear about the automatic reply system. Perhaps
you could explain it more, with a few screen shots, on your site ?

Your program appears to be a proxy mail server. All mail of all kinds
is downloaded to one's system. Is that correct ? Or are blacklisted
items deleted from the server and not downloaded ?

Is the challenge/response email sent from KSF automatically ?
Independent of one's emailer ? Or does one's emailer need to have
an suto-responder template function ? Your (finally) screen shot
doesn't show a reference to the "response".

Presumably one cannot have multiple "responses" ? Of different
wording/sizes ?

I use a whole different approach:

1. make 2 Email accounts. (one for web, and one for personal).
2. create a folder for REAL inbox.
3. make message rules.. if messages contain people (your personal email
address) move all messages to (REAL inbox).. if messages contain people (web
email address) then DELETE messages..

Now, us the WEB email for newsgroups, companies that REQUIRE you submit a
valid Email address, untrusted people, IRC's and other Web stuff.. and the
personal for friends, family, and trusted people.. This way all your real
messages are in your REAL inbox, your spam is deleted, and the forged
headers are in the inbox ready for deleting, and if you need to get a serial
number (emailed to you) look in the trash and dig it out.

If there was a 'if TO line DOES NOT contain (your personal email address)'
message rule setting available, you can keep the inbox for good messages,
the spam deleted, and forged headers deleted.

This is the best way I found to sort all the spam I get.
