A lot of spammers recently

You keep up the good work with reports, and I'll keep banning them along with the ones that get caught by spam bot.

2008

Has anything changed on the site that has caused this massive amount of spam lately?
I doubt it is this site alone that is of note in this situation. Since about March/April of this year a whole bunch of trouble has been happening all over the Net and in so many nations and . . . well, I sort of got dragged out of retirement to help some folks. Not sure if anyone here knows the scope of this trouble, but it is bad. Really bad. Probably the worst since . . . well, the worst, period.

Yeah it’s getting hit by bots recently. Seems to have got much worse this month. Is this hosting going through Cloudflare?

If not (or the costs are not sustainable), then I’d suggest using something like the Anubis WAF (it’s free and open source). Unethical, yes - it might block search engine scrapers, but AI spambots are only gonna get worse.

2025 has been a very busy year for webmasters/admin trying hard not to suffer server overload, especially if on a shared hosting plan.

Very roughly, it started about March of this year and got progressively worse. It is the opinion of many folks that AI technology is a primary reason for this upsurge. My own studies since about May leans toward that being correct. There are a couple of support/tech sites where the discussions have run as long as 30+ pages.

EDIT: Apology for not remembering I'd already posted much the same information some weeks ago. I haven't been here for a bit when I couldn't log in a week or so ago and the spamming on this site is so out of control that it really isn't comfortable to weave around all the spam posts to see if there is content worthy of the effort. Please excuse my being blunt with this observation, but feels as if somebody has sort of simply given up at keeping the site clean. Or maybe doesn't have the time. Or doesn't trust a volunteer to help. Certainly somebody knows the ins-and-outs of such like htaccess and the rules, even though many new bots bypass the rules. There are still ways to control the situation, if the wish to do so is there.

Seems to be the spamming season
Looks like @Ian came back and has done some cleaning. That must have been a horrible job! Some are still slipping through but seems less than over the last month. I wonder what measures can be taken now that the spam bots are so advanced to bypass most conventional methods.
