Stopping all those links in "Recent" folder

in the Documents and Settings folder, there are several subfolders
under Administrator, Defaut User, etc. called "Recent". Every
frikkin
thing I do on the computer is recorded in there. If I had other
people using this computer, I'd be concerned about privacy, but I
only
use it myself. Yet, I really want to shut off that tracking if it's
possible. If for no other reason, everytime I search for a file or
folder, those useless junk links show up if they match the search.
Not to mention just more useless clutter filling my hard drive. I
see
no purpose for this at all, at least not for my needs.

Is there a way to permanently disable this?

Hope this helps.

Arthur: All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's
something big and sinister going on in the world.
Slartibartfast: No, that's perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the
universe gets that.

Not sure, but I use MRU (Most Recently Used) Blaster. It is a free program
and works great. Google for it.

I went to this site. IT tells me to open regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]

When I get to the Policies part, there is NO entry listed as
"Explorer". Either I have a different version of Win2K (the last
upgrade is what I have), or that website is full of crap, and just
wants to sell their software.....

Er, or:
That key was not needed.
IOW, windows uses a default value when a key is not present.

I finally figured it out. I had to ADD that key.
It works great, No more crap in the recent folder.
I never did that before, but I gave it a shot after backing up my
registry.

Thanks
