Stop XP locking after long inactivity?

any ideas on how to stop xp locking after long periods of
inactivity? (I have disabled screen saver password protect
and this doesn't help)

Perhaps your computer is really going into hibernation? In the Power
applet in Control Panel, disable hibernation. You don't give a lot of
information in your post, so I hope this helps.
