No Screen Saver

I have lost the possibility to able screen-savers.

The screen-saver page in Display properties is blanked out.

Clicking on a .scr file to either play or install the screen-saver will run
it, but will not play on it's own.

One of the problems now, is that not starting the screen saver after x time,
it does not ask for a password after a period of inactivity.

After quite some time researching the matter, i seek help....
