stop the login appearing

Using xp prof and of a sudden when I boot up the logon screen will appear
with 'administrator' and leave the password blank, and hit enter , it will
go to desktop.

Secondly, on the desktop, I do not see the "stat" icon as well as the quick
launch icon (although its tick. Please advice, thanks

I don't know what you mean by a "stat" icon. Quick Launch is a toolbar
generally located next to start button so I don't know what the QL icon is
that you refer to. Blank password compliments of MVP Pegasus:

- Click Start / Run / control userpasswords2 {Enter}
- Tick the box that requires users to enter a password.
- Click your account name.
- Untick the box that requires users to enter a password.
- Click OK.
- Enter the password for your account when prompted.
If it is a blank password, click OK.
