Walter

Hi,
Windows XP Home SP1a + All Windows XP update from the
Windows Update site.
Nortons AV 2004 + latest updates.
I have run Nortons AV and there is no virous infection.
Intel Pentium 4
1 Gig RAM in 2 512MEG modules
Creative G Fource 4 video
2 Western Digital EIDE hard drives one set as C: the
other D:

This set up has been running with no problems for 3
months until this week.
I have been seeing STOP errors several times over the
past week on my P4 (about 4 times)

It seems to occur when I am in Internet Explorer and once
in Excel from Office XP.

I have not installed any new hardware.
I have look in System Manager and there are no horrible !
marks.

Any ideas?

Walter.

If this is the first time that you have seen this STOP
error restart your computer.

If problem continues disable or remove newly installed
hardware or software, disable BIOS memory options such as
caching or shadowing.

If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable
components press F8 and select Safe Mode.

Hi Walter,

Frequently attributed to the display adapter:

STOP: 0x00000050 Page_Fault_In_Non-Paged_Area Error After Installing Service
Pack 1 (SP1)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329293

Also possibly USB drivers:

Error Message: STOP 0x00000050 (0xffffffe0, 0x00000001, 0xf30da010,
0x00000000) PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817197

And also faulty ram. If you want to check the memory, there are free
programs here:

http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/download.asp
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

But keep in kind that a thorough test can only be done with test equipment
at a computer shop. Software tests are not perfect in diagnosing these
issues. At the price of memory today, you may find that the test costs more
than a replacement stick.

Here's a link to a MS Knowledge Base article. Note that the url wraps in
my newsreader so you'll have to enter it into your browser's addressbar
on one line.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit
en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit
en-us/prmd_stp_ccgm.asp

Since the url is so long, it might just be easier to go to Google and
put in the search term, "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA". Here's another
link to a great place to research Stop Errors:

The Non-Paged area is a part of RAM used for things that are so critical
that they may not be swapped out. The system components there are so
central and critical that they are unlikely to exhibit this error. But
some other software invades that area too, notably some Symantec
products, and does have errors. I have seen this associated with Norton
before - uninstall and see. And if it goes away take the matter up with
Symantec
