"Stop Error"

My friend has experienced several automatic restarts. I examined the
fault and it seems to relate to the 20Gb G: partition that had only
four files on it. They were avi files, about 6 months old but I have
no idea when they were downloaded.

I did a system restore and it made no difference. I transferred the
four files across the network for safety and forced a format of the
partition. I shall monitor progress.

What would cause this error message?

It's very difficult to tell without the name and numbers that come after the
Stop error.

As you can see from the page below, there are more than a couple of Stop
errors and causes.

You might want to turn off the Automatic Restart on Failure to help
determine the cause. Right-click on My Computer, choose Properties,
Advanced, Startup and Recovery-Settings, and in the System failure section
de-select Automatically restart. Once this is done, the system should
present an error message rather than just restarting. This message should
provide clues as to the source of the problem.

I checked with him yesterday and the problem seems to have disappeared
with the action that I took in eliminating the four video files. I
don't know if this is going to be permanent, but I might disable the
automatic restart just to see if anything happens.

Many thanks.
