stop error on boot??

I have a dell desktop with WinXP home ed. I am getting a
stop error on boot?? Can anyone help as to why its doing
this and how to fix it> Tried safe mode but no luck ..just
the BSOD
stop 0x00000051 (0x00000001, 0xe2562478, 0x001f8100,
0x000001d5)

All the searching I have done on this keeps taking me back to this
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=810558 which says you need to
contact Microsoft and repair the registry before you can apply their hotfix.
