I have a system at the office here that will reboot. Upon restart, we don't get an error message, but we do get an event log.

The system
Emachines T1742
Celeron 1.8
512 mb ram
40 gig drive

Software
Office 2003
Norton anti virus updated weekly
Plugins for Explore 6.5 for online quickbooks

Printer
Okidata 420 dot matirx printer

Event log
System
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 12/7/2007
User: N/A
Computer: N/A
Description:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0x00000000, 0xee0aeac0, 0x00000000). A dump was save in:C:WINDOWSMinidumpMini120707-01.dmp

I ran the dump thru a debug and found the driver usbscan.sys was involved, but that is all I could get out of the dump.

My thoughts are that the motherboard usb ports might be going. But it could be that the driver is bad.

The reboots are randum and are not predictable.
Could anybody lend a hand?

Thanks Jeff

478?

Is this a 478 socket or a 370 socket? If this is a 370 I would quikly change the motherboard with a better brand of motherboard myself.

Do you have a USB scanner attached to the system? If so, try updating the drivers for it.

Are there any other USB devices attached?

USB Scanner

No usb scanner, this is just a standard office computer, Web, e-mail, word processing etc with a okidata m420 printer, and no other peripherals

On the can you clock the cpu to 1.7 question, this is a older Emachines computer with dumb down bios. Don't think I can, but will check out bios.

I have updated with all Microsoft updates. I wonder if this is a memory thingy.

Your thoughts?

To try and troubleshoot the error, try disabling USB in the bios (if possible) to see if that stops the errors. If it does, we can work from there :)

Re:

Providing that the Emachine has no physical ailments this leaves only one conclusion. The programming is experiencing a conflict.I would suggest that if reloading drivers turns out to be the last option, start with your Intel® 82801AB (ICH0) I/O Controller Hub.This,I believe is the parent device for your USB ports. MERRY CHRISTMAS 2007
