STOP error after SP2 update

Terry

I have a problem with a XP system that had the auto update
feature enabled, and after the user seen the SP2 being
downloaded, and after they rebooted their system, the
system starts to boot up, and fails. When I go into the
option to not to restart after system failure, I get an
error of STOP: c0000135 ... winsrv not found...
When searching microsoft, I have found this error on win
2000 SP updates, but nothing on XP. I'm assuming it's
probably the same problem. My next problem though is that
they don't know the admin password to the system, so I
can't even get into the recovery console to try and copy
the file from the CD. Any suggestions with out installing
a new copy of XP?

Hi, Terry,

I had the same problem. No one could help. I had to reinstall XP. This
administrator password thing is an unnecessary pain in the ass. Microshaft
is no help; they are the problem.

Sorry I don't have better news.

Well, at least I know I'm not the only one with this
problem. On the 2000 Problem it recommended to do another
install of 2000 into a different directory and copy the
files, I'm just curious of what effect on the current
installation of XP that would have.

reinstall XP. This

the ass. Microshaft
Guys there is a linux boot disk if you can get on the net that allows
you to change the admin password of an NT based machine...then you can
logon as admin and change the file as required.
