Stop error 0x0000008E when trying to install Windows Updates

Hi all,

I have got this problem, that has occured after a virus attack! I have
cleaned what i can, run all sorts of removal tools, and reinstalled
windows
over the current version. However, the problem still exists, and i can
only
assume that the registry is still infected. I have searched everywhere for
a
solution but to no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a malware infection and you can't sort it out, then do a clean
install.
 
any of them, inc IE7. I have switched off auto updates in msconfig and pc is
fine, soon as i try to download any it crashes! I suspect that the virus i
had is still embedded in the registry?
