Stop Error 0x0000007F

Good afternoon --

I came back from vacation and did a quick Windows Update. It applied 6
critical and one optional patches. Ever since, my computer randomly
generates a BSOD with a STOP error code of 0x0000007F. More specifically, it
reads:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart you
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Run a system diagnostic utility supplied by your hardware manufacturer. In
particulary, run a memory check, and check for faulty or mismatched memory.
Try changing video adapters.

Disable or remove any newly installed hardware and drivers. Disable or
remove any newly installed software. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove
or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced
Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode."

I ran a memory checker and it reported no problems. I changed video cards
and had the same issue. I know I could try a System Restore, but I was
hoping to avoid that as I need some of the Windows Update patches.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Michael

Never mind. There are hardware issues. After performing a system restore to
a time before the Windows Update, I experienced the same BSoD.

Boot with the DVD and on the Install Windows screen select the link for
restore options. Windows may automatically select a restore option if not
start with the bascis, like repair startup environment. If not rollback to
before the updates.
