Stop continued numbering of lists: More Complex

Hope somenone can shed some light on this more complex numbering problem. I
have a large document set up as a form. There is protection of the document
for form fields and sections unprotected where we need to have the enduser
insert another previously filled out form. This is an appendix and should
have its own numbering for heading 2, but continues the numbering from the
previous document. I am at a loss to keep this from happening. Even more
complex is the fact that the enduser may need to insert this same form (each
person working on the project must have a personnel history attached)
multiple times. Each need to have ther own Part 1...Part II etc. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much for responding!

The first question it is worth asking is whether you do need automatic
numbering in this case - if every version of this form is the same, and what
you actually want is to fix the numbering to stay as it is in the empty
form, then manual numbering is more logical.

If you do need automatic numbering, then you will need to set up a separate
sequence for the Appendices. Have a look at the advice on Shauna Kelly's

For the Part numbers, you'll need to restart the numbering for each new
form. Probably the easiest way of doing that would be to include a LISTNUM
field after the last heading in that number sequence in the form (if you
only have one bullet and numbering format, then you could put it right at
the end of the document.). See

Margaret thank you. I did decide to use the listnum after the document. I
used the auto numbering because I wanted to make sure they were consistent
when they edit the documents...seems to happen frequently. If the listnums
is not as consistent as it should be I may have to manually number.
