I received the stop code above when turning on my PC. Running Windows XP.
Will not let me start in any of the three Safe Mode options or Last Windows
Configuration. I am pretty sure that I am running SP3, but not 100% sure.

Checked Microsoft Support, and they do not list this stop code error
message. Any assistance would be appreciated on how to start in safe mode
and resolve this stop code message. Thank you for taking the time to read.

If you do a Google search for 0x00000024 you will get results - and
the results are not pretty.

The next question is going to be if you have a bootable XP CD handy...

0x00000024: NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
A problem occurred within NTFS.SYS, the driver file that allows the system to read
and write to NTFS file system drives. There may be a physical problem with the disk,
or an Interrupt Request Packet (IRP) may be corrupted. Other common causes include
heavy hard drive fragmentation, heavy file I/O, problems with some types of
drive-mirroring software, or some antivirus software. I suggest running ChkDsk or
ScanDisk as a first step; then disable all file system filters such as virus
scanners, firewall software, or backup utilities. Check the file properties of
NTFS.SYS to ensure it matches the current OS or SP version. Update all disk, tape
backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions.

Following on from the comments posted by "Jose" and "Peter Foldes", run
CHKDSK /P from the 'Recovery Console'.

Start your computer with the Win XP cd-rom in the drive, and choose the
option :

* To repair a Windows XP installation using
Recovery Console, press R.

....when it appears on the screen.

Type your Administrator password (more often than not, this will be a
'blank' password, so just press [ENTER] to begin).

Once 'Recovery Console' has begun, type CHKDSK /P at the prompt, and
press [ENTER] to start the scan.

The /P option makes chkdsk fix and errors that it finds.

When chkdsk has finished (it will say so and give you a summary of what
it found), reboot your machine.

Doing this should fox any file system errors you have on the disk, and
since your error code is interpreted as :

0x00000024 NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

....then one might assume following this course of action would help.

Hi my name is Matt and I have this problem too. I have windows xp home sp3. I've tried everything that I've been told and nothing seems to work. When I go in the recovery console and type in chkdsk it says that the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems. Then I typed in chkdsk /p it just says the same thing. I've also tried repairing it with the windows xp disc but it tells me there isn't a version of xp on the computer.
