STOP: c000021a error after Kodak EasyShare installation

After installing Kodak EasyShare 6.0 software on my Dimension 4550 running
under Windows XP (SP2?), the blue screen has been displayed every time I try
to start the PC. The message displayed on the blue screen is:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a
status of 0xc000012f (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.

Another possible cause of the problem is McAfee VirusScan announced that it
had removed a virus (a trojan I think) right after the installation of
EasyShare.

I've tried to start Windows using the last good configuration, and in safe
mode, but the same error appears. I ran the Dell diagnosics on the hard
drive and no problems were found: is doing a repair reinstall of Windows XP
the next step I should take?

Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I posted on the aumha.org message board and was first
offered the following sugesstion, which I considered doing except there's a
warning if the OS was installed by the OEM. I've actually done a complete
reinstall a couple of years ago, so that might not even be an issue:

The alternate suggestion is an in-place reinstall:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341

There is one other potential cause of the problem: I received a virus
removal message from McAfee VirusScan not long after installing EasyShare
(maybe after the on-line registration process).

I guess the in-place reinstall is the safest approach?
