Stop automatic redial in WinxP home?

I'm having trouble setting up WinxP (Home) so it won't reconnect to
the web after manually closing the connection.

I want to leave the web browser open and work offline without the
system trying to reconnect every couple minutes. I don't want to
reconnect until I use the desktop shortcut to dial the connection.

Any way to do that?

Open Internet Explorer
Tools-Internet Options-Connections tab
Select "Never dial a connection" and click ok

Yes, that works for explorer, but I don't see any option for Firefox?

Enter about:config in Firefox's address bar and set
network.autodial-helper.enabled
to false

Yes, that helps. Firefox stays offline for more than a hour now but
eventually reconnects. I disconnected and took an hour nap and it was
still disconnected. Then I went out and washed my truck and firefox
had reconnected by the time I finished. Strange problem.
