I have no Add Ins from what I can tell. This did begin after the installation
of Norton Spyware/Antivirus but I can't find anyplace to 'turn it off' as
others have suggested. This is driving me nuts.

1. Open Norton AntiVirus (right-click on the Systray icon and choose this
option).

2. Click on the Options button at the top of the dialog.

3. In the Options dialog, click on Miscellaneous (menu on the left)

4. Clear the check box for "Enable Office Plug-in."

5. OK out and close NAV.

This has always driven me nuts, too, but I don't have and never had NAV.

Mine - unlike Mary's - doesn't point to a culprit. I just thought it was
another of Word "features"

It could be the result of orphaned temp files from a crashed Word session -
attend to http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm Restart
Word then if prompted to save normal.dot do so.
It could also be that you have made changes that Word sees as a potential
change to normal.dot.
