I'd like to stop a program, Kazaa, from strarting automatically when Win XP
Prof starts. It puts an icon in the tray on the lower right corner, and the
program is running in the background. I have to click on the icon, then
close it.

I cannot find it in any of the Start folders, so I don't know where to
delete it from. I've had the same issue with other programs - I don't want
them running unless I turn them on.

Many thanks
Mike Thomas

Start | run | MSCONFIG will show you everything that's set to start up.
However, if you're wise, you will uninstall Kazaa and not use it or any P2P
file sharing software - it is too dangerous, not to get into the ethical
issues of sharing copyrighted material. Run AdAware or SpyBot S&D to clean
your system - I bet you have lots of creepy crawlies in there now anyway
from having installed Kazaa.

Have a look in Kazaa Options. Under one of the tabs there, you'll find a
check-box "Launch Kazaa automatically with Windows."

What poster "Lanwench" says about Kazaa and spyware is correct- it does come
bundled with all sorts of crap. An alternative which I highly recommend and
use myself is "Kazaa Lite++" available here: http://doa2.host.sk/ It's
Kazaa without all the spyware/adware and comes bundled with helpful
downloading tools to speed downloads, jump supernodes, etc. It also has an
option to lower your profile if you're concerned about the RIAA hassling
you; you can set it so that others can download from you BUT they can't
browse your shared files and see how many you are sharing. If you are
interested in KazaaLite, you should uninstall Kazaa, then run AdAware or
SpyBot to clean out all the crap it deliberately leaves behind, then install
KazaaLite.
