STOP:0x000007B - Inaccessible boot device

Hi,

I am trying to create a hard drive image that supports
laptops, desktops and workstations. The image was built on
laptop because some desktop settings are needed on laptop.
The laptop image shows the mentioned stop error while
restored and booting up on workstations that uses mass
storage controller.

I did realize about the mass storage controllers in
workstation and hence had populated sysprep.inf
[SysprepMassStorage] with controller's location to use.
This is followed by sysprep execution. I noticed that it
will auto create the [sysprepcleanup] section after
sysprep execution. Any idea why the section get created?

My questions are:
1. Eventhough i had included the [sysprepmassstorage], why
i still encounter this stop error while booting up in
workstation with scsi controller? Had i missed anything?
Do i need to include mass storage drivers to system32
\drivers folder before i kick sysprep?

2. Should i create the hard drive image from workstation
with mass storage controller instead of laptop? Which is
recommended and why?

3. I guess it is impossible to create an image on laptop
and press F6 key during w2k setup to install third-party
scsi drivers, why? I would like the mass storage drivers
to be included in the laptop image so that while it is
being restored to workstation with scsi card, the stop
error will not occur.

4. if i am to build the image that support workstations
with different SCSI controllers on each machine, say LSI
logic SCSI and Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI card, is it possible
that i only build a SINGLE image on either one of the
workstation and support both machines? How can make it?
How should I include both the scsi cards' drivers into the
image? I figured out that eventhough i loaded two scsi
card drivers during w2k setup with F6 key, but only the
scsi driver that matches the mass storage will be
installed and another driver gone.

Wow, what a lengthy questions!
Apologize for that and really appreciate your precious
response and advise on these... Thank you..

Maybe this will help you

Disconnect UPS devices.

Disconnect the serial cable that connects any UPS devices.
Windows 2000 Server attempts to automatically detect
devices connected to serial ports, which can cause
problems with the UPS and the installation process.

If possible, set your system BIOS to reserve all interrupt
requests (IRQs) currently in use by non-Plug and Play ISA
devices. Failure to do so could result in the following
message during installation:

INACCESSESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

If this occurs you will not be able to complete
installation.

Also be sure to update your emergency repair disk and your
emergency boot disk.

Hi,

I have a network install that works with both laptops and desktops
(PnPdrvrs and all that), but unless you're an expert of this and know
otherwise, I'd say trying to use a drive image from a laptop for
something else would be a BAD idea!
