When my XP SP2 with all updates system goes through shutdown the I now get
a Stop 0X0000C5 blue screen andthen the system always restarts, even tho I
want it to shut down.
I used the Debugging tools and examined the mini dump. It says

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have
solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last problematic
shutdown. No
Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Can you also post a copy of the report referring to ati2mtag

Hope this helps.

Additionally, I have now run a Protection Scan with Windows Live OneCare.
And I am quite angry with the results of the scan that were NOT EXPLAINED.
The Protection Scan ran and at the end it said that it had found 3 problems
and one something or other.
It found no open ports. But it did not give any specifics about the nature
of the 3 problems.
I have looked all over my system for any log of what OneCare did to me
system and I can't find
any record of it. It did send results to Microsoft. But it didn't tell me
anything about any of the nature
of any ofthe 3 problems that it said it fixed.
Based on that " non-reporting" behaviour, I'll never run it again because I
will NOT tolerate
any changes to my system unless I have detailed information about a problem
or a fix.

Or, am I making some mistake in having to report that OneCare didn't report
anything.
I looked all over OneCare and ncould fing nothing about the 3 errors other
than OneCare "fixed"
the 3 problems.
Please advise if I am in error.
Thanks !

Hi Nass,
I'm embedding all my replies inside all your questions in the previous stuff
below.
Your lines start with the > character.
My replies don't have the > at the start of the line.

THIS HAS A HAPPY ENDING.
And AWAAAAaaaaayyyy we go !

BUT FIRST,
Registering the file with regsvr32 \windows\system32\STDOLE2.TLB give a
response windowette that says
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
\windows\system32\STDOLE2.TLB was loaded, but the DLLRegisterServer entry
point was not found
\windows\system32\STDOLE2.TLB does not appear to be a .DLL or .OCX file.

what do I do about THAT ?

I have not installed any new hardware since last year.
The last software I installed is the "IsUsedBy" utility from mst Software.
It identifies the task that is using a specified file.name. I use it when
I can't delete a file because it is in use. "IsUsedBy" tells me who's using
a file.
In this regard it's a benign utility and it was not runniing at the time of
the Stop 2C's.

I/O Ports Blocked from BIOS AML

I read the article's guidelines for BIOS developers.
But, it doesn't tell how to find if any I/O ports are blocked from BIOS AML
so I don't know what to do.
About the OneCare scan I think you got tired and bored waiting and clicked
finsihed without reviewing the detail log by clicking on the Objects found
link.

I did not see any "Objects found" link. It ran and reported it was complete.
It reported only that it found 3 "problems/issues" but did not show how to
see them.

SOooooo, I ran it again today, and got the same "unclickable" result says 2
"Dangerous" and one "High" threat were found.
And again I could not find any " mrt.log ".

So I called Microsoft support. They said that I should download the OneCare
package and use it for free for 90-days,
rather than running it from the MS website.

And in the meantime, I should, and I did, download and run the virus scanner
from Ewido as directed by MS.
The Ewido run completed. It found 152 tracking cookies, and also the
existence of something called "Trojan.Tibs.ap."
So I let Ewido quarantine that one, and also deleted all the tracking cookies.

When I restarted the system, then during cycle-down, I DID NOT GET any Stop

So I shut it down. and again I DID NOT GET any Stop ox000000C2's. HOOOO-Ray
! HOOOORay ! and HOOOO-Ray ! !

Now I consider this ticket done and can on without the worry of any more
damage caused by/causing STOP 0x000000C2.

THANK YOU NASS and THANK YOU GERRY. NOW YOU CAN GO HOME TODAY !

I hand-typed all that info from the Windows EXplorer display which gave the
FileName, and the FileType and the Date.

a Stop 0X0000C5 blue screen andthen the system always restarts, even tho I
want it to shut down.
I used the Debugging tools and examined the mini dump. It says

Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.

BugCheck 100000C5, {85, 2, 1, 8054b407}

Probably caused by : Pool_Corruption ( nt!ExDeferredFreePool+156 )

Followup: Pool_corruption

But the command " !analyze -v " returns nothing.

How do I stop the Stop 0x000000C5's ?
