STOP: 0x0000007E error after Imaging IBM Till with Ghost

One of 24 identical devices is failing after being Ghosted from an image on a
local server. The image has successfully been used on several other units,
before and since the failing unit.
MS quotes KB818966: When you try to install Windows XP by using a disk
image, you may receive an error message on a blue screen similar to the
following:
STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xF9E2BB72, 0xF9FD30E4, 0xF9FD2DE4)
which applies to XP Pro, XP Tablet and XPHome

the Stop code does not mention a driver or other module causing the failure;
the BSOD occurs just after the boot switches from character to gui
splashscreen for the first time - so no logging.

Previous posts to this group and to other XP groups re STOP: 0x0000007E
indicate issues with Creative cards - not installed here - and with USB
devices. Being a till, it has 5v, 12v and 24v USB devices attached: I have
not tried a boot without them as
a> it is useless then
b> all other tills built from the same Ghost image have worked fine
c> I have built another till, using the same particular peripherals, from
the same Ghost image.

Any shared experiences or common ideas out there ?

I've seen numerous issues with Ghost over the years.

What version of Ghost are you using? Are there any updates available for
your version?

Does the BSOD occur when the XPe splash screen is visible? Or after the XPe
splash screen goes away but before the screen goes blue before login?
