STOP 0x0000007B Error on XP Install- New Dell

Hi,

I am getting a "STOP 0x0000007B" error message when I load Windows XP
Setup program into memory on a new Dell PC. It is a Dimension E520
with Intel Pentium D Processor 915 with Dual Core Technology(2.8GHz,
800FSB), 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
256MB nVidia GeForce 7300LE TurboCache and 250GB SATA II Hard Drive
(7200RPM).

The system came loaded with Vista, and I want to reformat and install
XP Pro. I get the error after I boot from XP installation disc, and
after the drivers have been loaded into memory, right before it starts
up setup/installation program.

I understand from another post that it could be related to a missing
driver for a controller card that the XP setup program does not have
(someone said download and put driver on floppy and press F6 key
during setup), but I don't know how to pinpoint which driver it could
be missing.

Dell technical support has no answers.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,

I had the EXACT same issue with the exact same hardware. I wanted to
put XP on the system because a significant number of my applications
don't work on Vista. After Googling around I found the answer at
following link:

http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1336192&page=7

Basically, it said to go into the BIOS (using F2) and change the SATA
setting from RAID ON to RAID AUTODETECT. When I made that change.
Setup continued just fine.
