I'm doing a clean install of XP Pro which has been slipstreamed with
SP2.
I am installing to a 300gig drive on an K8N motherboard with an Athlon
64 3200+ CPU.

After the CD boots and goes through loading mass storage drivers, it
then proceeds to "Setup is starting windows". After about 2-3 minutes
of hard drive and CD access, it bombs with the dreaded 0x0000007b
error. I figured a slipstream of SP2 would allow it to deal with the
300gig drive, not sure what else this could be. Any ideas? Thanks!

thanks, i checked the knowledge base before posting here as well but
none of these cases seem to apply to my situation (btw just to clarify
this is an IDE drive, not a SATA drive, I realize I'd have to install a
new mass storage driver if it was SATA)

well i got... not really farther, just a different error message. i
found an nvidia nforce storage controller driver for my motherboard on
MSIs website (who knew that i'd need a driver for IDE??) ... anyway
i'll go look this one up, but now its an 0x000000ED
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

another mysterious one..... all i can find that might be applicable is
that it says this problem can occur if youre using a 40 wire IDE cable
on a UDMA device that requires 80 wires. not the case here :(.

problem solved, i was using an 80 wire cable on IDE 2 for the DVD rom
drives. switched it to a 40 wire and it's now installing.
