I am having difficulty troubleshooting the specific
problem. This is a laptop that was working fine on Dec.
24 and now is not starting up nor will it allow me to go
into safe mode. The portion of the error message in
parenthases is
(0x00000034,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000) followed by
Session3_Initialization_Failed.

I have tried Last Known Good Configuration with no luck.
Microsoft's knowledge base article (or at least the one I
found that seems to fit) refers to a file being missing or
corrupt but does not tell me how to determine which one it
is. I can use the Recovery Console to recover the file if
I can determine the problem. Does anyone have a solution
or at least a way to determine which file is corrupted?

Hi, try this

A file critical to system initialization, such as Smss.exe, may be missing or corrupted.

RESOLUTION
Use one of the following methods to restore a missing or corrupted file:

If the Windows Operating System is installed on a FAT partition, copy the initialization file to the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory. If Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 is installed on an NTFS partition, reinstall Windows NT to a separate directory. Log on as the same user with the same permissions and copy the initialization file to the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory. If Windows 2000 is installed on an NTFS partition use the Recovery Console to replace system files. For instructions on relacing system files using the recovery console see:
