Stop: 0x0000004E

What does PFN_LIST_CORRUPT mean? The stop code is 0x0000004E and there are
four more hex numbers after it. This is the second time I have gotten this
message, microsoft seems to think that this error only happens in Win2k, I
am running XP Pro SP1 with all the updates.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
John

The indication here is that it is a driver issue.

First, be sure your antivirus software has the latest definitions and run a
virus scan.

Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for
errors corresponding to the crash, double click the error, the information
contained within may give a clue as to the
source of the problem.

Assuming you have an XP CD and not a recovery CD, place the XP CD in the
drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility,"
the report it generates may point to problem hardware or software on your
system. If you do not have an XP CD, you can download this application
known as the Upgrade Advisor from the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/advisor.asp
Note: If you have access to a broadband connection it might be best to
download using that as this is a rather large download.

Check for the latest drivers for your hardware, especially your graphics
card and soundcard and all peripherals connected to your system. No not use
Windows Update for this, go to the device manufacturer's web sites and if
you install updated drivers, ignore the message about drivers being unsigned
by Microsoft.

If you get other stop code errors you may have bad RAM.

I started getting all kinds of 0x000000XX where XX is (4E, 4F, 0E,
etc.)

I have 2x512MB PC2700 chips and both went bad after 6 months of use.
They were still under warranty. Went to store; replaced and no more
BSOD. I was getting 5 a day.

Come to think of it, I have been having more BSOD's then usual
recently.....Thanks for the tip, Ill see if I can borrow some ram and try
swapping mine out.
