Stolen notebook...?

My notebook was recently stolen from my home. I did not
buy it from a company or store. I bought it from a friend
who got it from a friend and I never thought of writing
down the serial number or any other type of information
like that. I did though buy and install a fresh OS onto
the computer so I do have the Windows XP home cd and key.

I was wondering if there is anyway that once that person
or anyone else accesses the Internet using the notebook
can Microsoft send some kind of command or cancel that
specific OS activation? Disabling them the use of my
notebook.

unfortunately the OS will work depending on if they can
get by any passwords. They can also, reformat and
install an XP OS. Don't know that that machine is
particular to microsoft database as it were.

I didn't have a password on it cause I was the only one
who used it and never really took it anywhere. Thanks
though.

I want to put the copy of XP onto another computer that
still has 98. Because I am getting a new notebook so I
will be getting another copy of XP. I just didn't want
Microsoft getting mad cause I was putting it onto another
computer.

Microsoft has no way of tracking the stolen computer.
There would be major privacy issues if that were possible.
As long as Windows XP is retail, you have the original Product Key and
CD, Windows XP is your to use again on another computer.
You may have to explain the laptop was stolen at time of activation.
Call is normally less than 5 minutes.

If Windows XP is OEM, include that with the insurance claim.
OEM is normally permanently tied to the first computer installed and
can not be transferred regardless the condition of the original
computer.
