Still no NEWS in GO

So, the News command completely disappeared as an option from the
customization for the Go menu. I rebooted, and it came back. Then I
dragged it to the Go menu, and it stuck. I shut down Outlook 2003, and when
I restarted it the News command was no longer on the Go menu. So I rebooted
again, started Outlook, still no News on the Go menu, and now no News
command available via Customize to drag to the Go menu. This is obviously a
glaring bug, when is Microsoft going to address this?

More:
Its weird, but every once in awhile I'll have the News choice show up in
Customization, and I dragged it to the Go menu, then shutdown Outlook, and
restarted it, and it was still there. So I clicked on News, and it opened
Outlook Express in Outlook Newsreader mode, and then I dropped down the Go
menu in Outlook and "News" was GONE!!! And it wasn't available in the
customization area. So I shut down the newsreader and looked at the Go
menu, no News, checked customization, no News, shutdown outlook and
restarted, still not there. Its very inconsistent. I just reinstalled
windoze on this machine, its a fresh install, just Windows XP Pro, with SP1
and all critical updates installed, then loaded Office 2003 S&T edition, did
all the updates, and thats it. I never had this problem with Outlook 2002
(XP). I'll probably restart it in a couple of hours and the News command
will be there somewhere. I may just uninstall 2003 and go back to 2002 -
unfortunately, now all my pst's are in the 2003 format, so I'll lose
whatever mail I received since "upgrading", and if I put 2003 on a different
box, I'll have to make the damn phone call to MyCrowSoft. You'd think if
they put all this energy into "product activation", they'd also have it
"de-activate" on uninstall and save money on CS reps.

This is posted here several times a day.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

I see: set Outlook Express as the default News reader, and then the News
command sticks in the Go menu in Outlook.... Gee, its so intuitive, I feel
like an idiot for not realizing that's how it works....

;-)

Thanks, Russ

I never said it was intuitive. That's why we have to post this answer so
many times a day.
