Still Can't Send Mail

I'm new to Vista 64 bit. I have been reading your threads on how to handle
the "sending mail" problem. I've downloaded some patches, I've turned off
the AVG virus email scanner; still to no avail.

I can receive mail, but cannot send it. I get the following error message:

554 5.7.1 error "The message could not be sent because your e-mail program
needs to identify itself to the sending mail server.

I've checked both the pop3 account and the smtp account and both are set up
as instructed.

Any suggestions???

Thank you,
Merle

Are you connected to your ISP's network when this occurs?
Please post the entire error message.

ISP's network because I can receive mail, it just won't send anything.

Thank you

That wasn't the fix..
and when you reply to a quoted message, don't start immediately after the
quote prefix (>>), instead hit Enter and start on the next line.
