Still Can't Log On to Microsoft

I still can't log on to any Microsoft web sites except
this one. Someone suggested a problem with the proxy
server, but I am not using one. I am not using a third
party firewall and I have turned the local firewall on and
off and both times had the same problem. I am also having
trouble with Outlook Express. It will lockup the 1st time
I try to connect, I will cancel out and try again and most
of the time it connects. Are these problems related? I
have just loaded XP and I am trying to update it with all
the patches when all of these things happened.

You must install XP without its network connected,
and enable the firewall before first connecting.
Ideally you have all updates at hand from already
having them downloaded rather than having to run
naked over the net for extended time getting them.
