Sticky keys

MS website suggests that sticky keys work for users with accessibility issues
to allow them select Ctrl+Alt+Del one key at a time rather than
simultaneously. However when I set up stick keys, the Ctrl and Alt key are
captured but when the Del key is select, the Ctrl and Alt keys are
de-selected. Has anyone any ideas on this?

I give you an example:

If you want to permanent delete a file, you have to press SHIFT+DEL key. So,
if sticky key running then you will press SHIFT and then Del key. It works
fine and it immediately deselect the shift key too but the command run. Maybe
CTRL+DEL or ALT+DEL key combination will also be working fine but I don't
have any application to test it.

However, if you want Windows not to deselect shift, ctrl or alt key after
you press Del key then press the shift, ctrl or alt key twice to lock it
down. then you have to press the shift, ctrl or alt key once more time to
deselect it.

This feature is called lock key.

Hope this help, let us know!

Hi RajKohli

Thanks very much for your reply. Your suggestion of using the lock key does
appear to work however, I can still not fully use sticky keys to achieve what
we need.

We have people using computers who have physical disabilities and have
difficulty clicking on more than one key at a time. As our computer needs
Ctrl+Alt+Del to logon and logoff of the machine, they have real difficulties.

Using the 'lock' mechanism, I am able to log off or lock the computer now
with no difficult, thanks to your help. However when trying to log back on
or unlock the computer, for some reason, the sticky key functionality does
not work the first time I enter the combination of keystrokes, but does work
when I enter the keystrokes a second time. This brings up the logon screen
requesting username and password. However, I am unable to type onto this
screen (even when I place cursor where I want to enter the details). But I
have no problems retying in username/password when I manually select
ctrl+alt+del rather than using sticky keys.

Would be great if you have some ideas of what the issue might be.

Thanks again

Perhaps not using the CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on/off is the answer. It can
be "removed" in User Accounts, Advanced.

So, as you mention I tried it on my Windows XP Professional Machine and it
was working fine and even I don't have to use 'Lock' mechanism. Also
Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination using the sticky key for locking and unlocking
the PC is working fine for me without locking the keys. I hope that you are
pressing the key in right manners like Ctrl then Alt and then Del key not
Ctrl+Alt and then Del key.

'Lock' mechanism could be one cause that you are unable to type User Name
and Password one asked. Because keyboard will not work if either Ctrl or Alt
key will lock. You have to play a little with the sticky key so you can
understand how it actually works. Sticky key produce three different sounds
when keys are pressed. Like you press Ctrl once, lock the Ctrl key and
unclock the key. Listen them carefully.
Try playing with them in text editing software like Wordpad and then apply
this for locking / unlocking your PC.

Hope this help, let us know!

Thanks RajKohli

This reply is also helpful. I will try to familiarise myself with the
sticky keys options.

Thanks

You're welcome. If you go this route, check to see that "Log Off" is
made available in the Start menu.
