Stepping up

Smith, Dennis P.

Looking for recommedation on what other video editing software would be a
step up fom MovieMaker. I have looked at Adobe's product but that is too
advanced for a novice such as myself.

Dennis,

Not knowing what you are planning to do, maybe it's just an expanded
toolbox, using a number of other tools to compliment your use of Movie
Maker.

Your post rings a bell in that I just finished an introductory page for the
online companion of an MM2 book I'm working on. There's a 30 second clip on
the page that illustrates the use of MM2 with other utilities.

I'm pretty interested in using the 99 dollar Sony/Sonic Foundry program, but
don't want to HAVE to register it before I use it. I want a program that
will use both the storyboard and the timeline ala MM2 (and I have one on my
Sony desktop -- Movie Shaker). And, I'd like to know more about the "Let's
Edit" proram on the Canopus site. I also want a program that will author
the DVD and burn it. Thus far, I use MM2 to edit, save in DV-AVI and then
author and burn from a CRAPPY program I unfortunately bought called Roxio
Video Power Wave (which I use to make the image portion of DVD quality
slideshows, put the resulting clip into MM2 and add audio and then burn with
Roxio). The only shortcoming I can see with MM2 is no author, burn
function. I also use MM2 to make an edited avi clip which I then use in
Roxio to join the clips with the expanded transitions available in that
program. Roxio seems to have no real timeline to do any sort of tweaking...
Mostly, what I want is some kind of program that will let me switch back and
forth from storyboard to timeline and also author and burn a DVD. Most
threads I've read say that people use several different program to the
various stuff they want to do. Just stay away from Roxio..
