Upon booting my old toshiba laptop that runs win98 I get a message that the
stcloader.exe has performed an illegal operation. I am assuming that the
file is corrupted. Is this an important file of the win98 environment? I
bought the laptop used and the win98 version I have on hand is a earlier
version. Where can I get the stcloader file to replace the bad one if that
is the problem. I also tried to defrag the c: drive. It will not scan past
4% before it starts over. Does this have to do with the stcloader file? I
used task manager to halt as many things I could that were running to no
avail. Defrag still stalls. What does the stcloader do?

If you have questions about Windows 98 you should be asking in a newsgroup
for Windows 98. This newsgroup is for Windows XP.

If you want to know what stcloader.exe is, do what we do - look it up on the
internet. You'll quickly find that stcloader.exe is a process belonging to
the 2nd Thought advertising program by CPM Media. This process monitors your
browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for
analysis. This also prompts advertising popups. You want this software off
your system.
