Used to be set to default as visible. Now every time I open IE6, I have to
go to view/status bar to set it, only for this time I am using it. Next
time, no status bar visible, nor on any new windows I open in IE in the same
browsing session.

What gives?

Open "1" IE window, set the status bar>closer the window. When you re-open,
it should be there?

If that fails?
try:
Close all your applications
Open Explorer (Window Key-E)
Select View, Status Bar (you should now see the status bar)
Goto Tools, Folder Options
Goto the View tab
Hit, apply to all folders
Hit ok to accept
Close that instance of Explorer
