Startup_CD Seek Problem

New PC and XP.
Suddenly CD drive peforms "seeks" during startup when no CD inserted.
Found copies of System32 files in Doc and Settings\.....\CDBurn temp folder.
Deleated files in Safe Mode and confirmed they are gone.
Problem continues durning startup.
Burned a CD OK but problem continues.
Appreciate help.

Rightclick the Start button, and Properties.

Clear the 'recent documents'
