Hi,
I have WinXP PRO. I got some spyware, etc. on my computer. Ran SpyBot and
AdAware. Finally went through the registry to see if anything was loaded
still. Deleted stuff I believe was corrupt. Made a backup of registry
first. Tried to restart and now the computer freezes on the blue boot up
screen. F5, F8, F10 don't work. I can press F1 to enter setup, but It
freezes on the blue screen but says entering setup. Try to boot with Windows
CD in the drive but same result. Please help.

Thank you.

What did you delete? Either way:

Repair the Windows XP Installation

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information
about how to do this, please refer to your computer's documentation or
contact your computer manufacturer.

Insert your Windows XP compact disc (CD) into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive, and then restart your computer.

(You can also boot with a Windows 98/Me Startup disk with CD support and run
WINNT.EXE in the I386 folder on the CD)

When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message is displayed on your
screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

When you see the following message displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen,
press ENTER: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

At this point an option to press R to enter the Recovery Console is
displayed. Do not select this option.

On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, press F8 to agree to the
license agreement. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is
selected in the box, and then press the R key to repair Windows XP. Follow
the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP

Actually, that's not what it sounds like at all. If the OP can't get
into his BIOS setup, that has nothing to do with Windows. He's having
general hardware failure. We have no way of knowing how Ogrish "knew"
he had spyware - he might have had malware and/or he might have been
having lockups because of failing hardware.

To the OP: please clarify when your machine locks up - I read "press F1
to enter setup" as meaning when your computer starts and the setup
referred to as being entering the BIOS setup. If this is incorrect,
then please post back with a better description of what is happening.

Based on the original post - and certainly not meaning to hurt your
feelings - I strongly suggest you take the machine to a computer
professional (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA) for diagnosis
and fixing. Or if the computer is still under warranty from an OEM,
contact their tech support.
