Can't Install Windows XP....... Registry Error

R

Please help!

I'm trying to do a XP re-install and when I come to the Setup screen I press
ENTER to setup Windows XP, I then press F8 to agree, I immediately get a blue
screen that says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down
to prevent damage to computer REGISTRY ERROR"

How do I get around this? I want to re-install Windows XP but this is as far
as I can get.

Thanks to all replies in advance

Get into your BIOS setup and change the boot order so that your CD drive is
the primary boot device. Now boot the machine with your WinXP installation
CD and follow the prompts to do a clean installation, allowing the disk to
be formatted. You will, of course, lose all existing data files.

If unsure how to get into the BIOS setup, check the documentation that came
with your PC.

Thanks for the reply Pegasus.

I have my PC's boot order set to CD first, I am booting from CD to do the
Windows re-install. My problem is that I can't do a clean install because
when I press ENTER to setup Windows XP and press F8 to agree.............I
get the Blue Screen Registry Error. This is where I'm stuck!

Thanks

Well, either you have a hardware problem or else you're not quite following
the prescribed procedure for a clean installation. Here is the sledge-hammer
approach: It will remove all existing partitions from your disk, forcing the
installation process into a clean mode.
1. Boot the machine with a Win98 boot disk or
CD (www.bootdisk.com).
2. Run fdisk.exe and delete all existing partitions.
3. If you cannot delete some partitions, run delpart.exe
(http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm) to do the job.

If the BSOD problem persists, repost in a hardware newsgroup.

Wipe the drive first. ie install to a "factory fresh" HDD.
