I have disbled some programs through the startup tab in msconfig, but I get
a message every time I restart the computer.

In the past I managed to disble these programmes in Regedit, but can't
really see what to do now

It's supposed to be, I think,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

but when I get there I cannot see the programs in question, or in fact many
of those that work currently.

Looks like I got the wrong key in regedit.

Peter,

How to clear your unused entries in MSCONFIG/Startup menu

* Click ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and type in REGEDIT
* Click into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* Click into ‘Software’
* Click into ‘Microsoft’
* Click into ‘Shared Tools’
* Click into ‘MSCONFIG’
* Click into ‘startupfolder’ and see if any keys inside folder are related
to an ‘UNCHECKED’ program in MSCONFIG/Startup

* Click into ‘startupreg’ and see if any keys inside folder are related to
an ‘UNCHECKED’ program in MSCONFIG/Startup

* After deleting the appropriate keys in REGEDIT, Exit REGEDIT

Startup Registry can be located in 2 places:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Thanks Alex

However, I have now removed through the add/delete programs the one in
question, but it left the unchecked (by me) key in the startup tab of
msconfig. And...it does not appear in the registry keys you mentioned
above.

So how do I get rid of this entry in the startup tab of msconfig?

Thanks for your help

Use "Normal StartUp ..." in the General tab of msconfig.exe and reboot.
It should refresh the list at startup.
