How do I remove programs from the Startup Menu so they don't start automatically as I boot up XP? Currently, I have about 15 programs that are starting up as I boot the PC and would prefer that they don't automatically start as they are taking up resources. The file name I'm referencing is: Documents & Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and then I have programs such as: Accessories, AOL, Arcsoft ShowBiz, DeadAim, DVD Compatibility, MS Clip, Works, Office, Publisher, ONDVD etc....... Are these really running and taking up resources
Thanks!

START --> RUN --> msconfig click ok

Goto startup tab and uncheck anything you don't want loaded on startup. Then
it will ask you to reboot.

Pat -
This is one of those questions that is quite basic but has
more than one simple answer. Your question is well written
and suggests that you could gain much by reading a book
such as Windows XP Fundamentals. I'm sure you will find
the answer there. And these are the basics that you need
to understand to avoid turning your computer into a mess.

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.
