I am currently starting my machine in 'selective statup'. It seems to fix
the startup problem I was having. How do I edit the start up configuration
so I can go back to 'Normal startup'. Thanks.

Go to Start menu, click Run. Type "msconfig" (without quotes). Then click
Normal Startup. Then click OK.

Hi Mark,

While you're in "Selective Startup", start adding items back to the the
startup list one at a time. These would be the items you *UN-checked*
previously.

Leave unchecked whatever you had to uncheck to resolve the startup problem.
When the dialog box shows on reboot, just tic the box on it to not have it
remind you again.

If you're trying to remove the unchecked items from the list in MSConfig
permanently, you have 2 options:

1. - Manually edit these registry keys...
"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder"
"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg"

2. - Use a utility from Kelly's website that easily does it for you...

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 148, right hand side
"Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup & Selective"
