My daughter who is abroad with no easy access to helplines etc has a 2 month
old Fujitsu Seimens Amilo Pro V2010 laptop running XP home ed. - SP2. When
she tries to start she gets a black screen with white text-
"...........Windows did not start successfully......" She has tried all the
restsrt options - Safe mode etc and gets the same message. We have tried all
the Help and support centre options without success. Also the Recovery
CD-ROM, but have stopped short of reloading sytem software whcih may loose
some software programme installations and and files.

Can any one help please?

Generally, there is more to the message than you've posted. Anyway this
is probably a Hive or component of the Registry that is corrupted. If Safe
mode doesn't work, the best option is try "Last Known Good Config". If
that fails you can use a manual process to recovery the Registry - but it's
not something you can step through over the phone & certainly not done
"Out-of-Country". A Repair install would likely fix it, but must be done
exactly or the existing XP instance might be overwritten, loosing Personal
data.
2 months of use is not very good for a new notebook. You might call the
Fujitsu support and see what they can offer. Perhaps she is in a locale that
has local Fujitsu support.

Many thanks for your comments.Tried more options without success. Fujitsu
helpline unavailable so in desperation reloaded Windows from Recovery CD.
Lost some files & programs but computer now working again. Such is life.
Thanks anyway
