What can I do to make start-up faster? I have normal
startup selected. I have Norton Anti-virus selected to
get automatic updates and a banner zapper program set to
start up automatically. I have nothing else set to open
on startup.

Any help with what I can do to clean up startup is
appreciated. Thanks

Depending on how new your motherboard and bios are, there may be a fast boot
option you mcan set in the bios.

You may have more things starting than you realize. Go to Start | Run
and type in msconfig
Click on the Startup tab for a list of the apps that are being
started. See http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ for more detailed
description, with screen shots.

Note that contrary to the advice on that site, you shouldn't use
msconfig to permanently disable programs from starting. It's intended
for temporary debugging. You should disable programs from starting at
boot-up by (a) using the program's own interface (check to see if it has
an option to start when Windows starts, or to put an icon in the system
tray, and deselect that option) (b) deleting entries from your Start |
All Programs | Startup folder (3) as a last resort, deleting the
appropriate entries from the registry (but don't do this unless you're
sure of what you're doing -- incorrectly modifying the registry can
render Windows inoperable).
