I recently had a problem that caused me to reformat my hard drive and
reinstall Windows XP and SP-2.

My problem now is that when I boot up, the first screen I see is System 32.
I can just close that screen and I am then on my desktop.

I don't know how to stop the System 32 from showing up.

TIA

If the System32 folder shows on the desktop, there may be an invalid
entry in the Registry
1.. Go to Start>Run type: regedit click Ok.
2.. Go to both:
3.. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
4.. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
5.. Double check that the values do not have incorrect, incomplete, or
blank entries in right pane.
and/or

Using Regedit, change the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENT VERSION\WINLOGON
Change USERINIT from
C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe to
C:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,

Hi Rich, have tried all other solutions to System 32 open folder at start up.
None relate to what i see when i get to the end of each strin in reg edit.
Ihave only one erroneous entry in both that is
(Default ) REG SZ (value not set)
Tried to delete these in both Local and Current but will not allow. Any
further clues
Thanks Mark T.
