Startup Programs Under System Info

Under Startup Programs in System Information have hundreds
of items each listed twice as NT AUTHORITY and DEFAULT
Noticed this after doing clean install of XP Pro with SP2 on new HD.
Never had all these entries before this latest clean install.

Only new software have installed that didn't use before is Norton
Internet Security 2006 (previously had 2003 version).

These items aren't in startup when run MSCONFIG and ones
there are what normally had before doing clean install.

Wondering if so many entries in System Info>Startup Programs
is normal. Tx for any info.

System Information tool (MSINFO32) displays the list of all the system files
when you click the "Startup Programs" section ?:

From what I've heard, Norton AV causes this.

Greatly appreciate link and fix. Ran it and
MSINFO32 startup program entires back to normal.

Tend to agree that might have something to do with
NAV/NIS 2006 program as only new software installed
tho never had this problem with previous 2003 NAV.

You're welcome Kurious.
Reboot once, and make sure that the problem does not return again.

All was ok for day or so and then MSINFO32 Startup Programs
showing system files again. Run your script and normal for awhile,
before same problem occurs until run script again. Have had to do this
about 5 times since your reply. Check after reboots and usually ok
and can't determine exactly when this problem starts.

Contacted Symantec if due to NIT/NAV 2006 but no response.
Not sure if related, but CPU usage often at 100% which never
had before either. System clean with no other problems.

Any further ideas would be much appreciated before do another format
and/or uninstall this software to see if definitely cause of problem.

That's a good idea. Alternately, you can audit the "shell folders" registry
keys.

How to use Group Policy to configure auditing of Windows registry keys in XP
Professional?:
