I have an XP Pro system that will not boot up. After it
brings up the menu, it freezes if I select 'Last known
configuration' or 'start windows normally'. It displays a
list of drivers and freezes on the iomdisk.sys when I
select any of the safe mode options.

So far I have done:

fixboot from the Recovery Console;
changed registry files from backup from the Recovery
Console; and
have booted up on an ms-dos disk where I can see all my
data.

But I still get the problem.

How do I know if my ntldr or my ntdetect.com files are
damaged, and where are they stored on the system?

Is there a way to recover my XP installation?

Please help

Boot from your xp installation cd. Once you get to the
startup screens for installation, there should be an
option for "repair current installation". Try running
this. It should put your XP back to a bootable condition,
however, it will wipe out any xp patches and updates you
have installed. Good luck.
