Hi,

hope someone can give me some pointers...
At startup, my laptop hangs at the desktop, without taskbar or icons, and a
locked keyboard. It doesn't happen all the time, but randomly...
I've allready checked hardware conflicts, software probs, registry probs.

I'm all out of options, but if someone out there has some tips on other
details to check???

It's a HP zv5330ea laptop with 2600+ athlon

I have heard of similar problems. Your probly better off reformating when it
comes to somethign like that but you can disable your start up items. you may
have a ton of programs loading in the back ground and that is what is taking
so long, but because there are so many the computer may get confused or your
too impatient and it locks up or seems to lock up....

I finally figured it out...

Seems that ZoneAlarm was the cause of the problem!
After re-installing it, it started like a charm, I've restarted
it about 40 times in different ways (including cold starts and having
a lot of programs open) and still no lock-up. A lot better than having
a lock-up every 4-5 times!

I guess it has something to do with installing XP's SP2. Checking the logs
in msconfig32 showed that problems started after SP2.
I turned off programs in start-up and restarted them one by one at every
restart.
Should have figured that one out earlier, but I still had to find the
reason,
which I did now.

Maybe a tip for people with similar problems?

grtz
