Startup problems at desktop.

Hi, I've got a new computer with some teething problems:

XP Pro works fine except when it loads into desktop; it then hangs
causing services like Internet Explore and the device manager to
freeze. Also I've noticed that Norton Antivirus checker appears in the
task bar, but is disabled temporarily (with a disabled cross).

However all of these functions are only disabled for about half a
minuet until the HDD (S-ATA) speeds up and then the floppy disk is
prompted. After that everything works fine.

Though I can run applications straight away (games, Dreamweaver etc)!
Crazy hu!

I've tried disabling all startup items in MSCONFIG and services + XP
services.

I'm sure something is causing this as XP on a clean boot does not
cause this problem but only after a few reboots; I've also tried
reinstalling Win XP Pro SP1, but to no avail.

I hope someone can help me out as my computer is boots quicker than
the physical delay that XP causes with this bottle neck.

Many thanks Phill:)

Youre suppose to run Msconfig, services, hide all microsoft programs, the
disable all (all being everything but microsoft services),close out, restart computer
if the problems still exist on next restart, you'll know that its not a windows progra
causeing the problems, from thier disable others one at a time to find it.You ca
also try opening event viewer for system problems that have occured.
