If you run msconfig

How do I get rid of unwanted startup files??

I have got one programme in there twice, under
startup...it is exactly the same file name(startup item),
path(command) and location.

How do you get rid of these?? Only one is ticked, but is
there not a way of getting rid of what is not needed??

if it isn't checked it doesn't run. Sounds like your
running another program that re-enables that item.

CHAZ: There is, but you will probably have to go to
REGEDIT. Avoid this if possible. Simply clear everything
from MSCONFIG(start-up only). Then reinstall your anti-
virus. Next, get RegCleaner to finish the job.

No, it doesn't run itself...as it is not checked, but was
wondering as it just looks untidy!

Thanks...looked in regedit....but then thought I would
quickly have a look in startup....

For some reason they have disappeared!! I suspect it is
because I did a manual regedit clean up!!

This has been explained breifly in another "re" but heres
a more detailed explination for those who need to do this.

First Start>Run>msconfig>startup>"expand the file name
and take a note of whats there , then go to this web site
and find out what they are , Becareful to take note of
spelling and case of letters because case difference can
mean a virus may have put it there.

Then to remove un wanted entries from the list rather
than un tick them in msconfig:

First go to the microsoft site below and read it. if it
Is done wrong you can wreck XP.

Start>run>regedit:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\sh
ared tools\ms config .listed beneath this is the start up
list , you should export the ones you dont want then
delete the ones you want rid of.
Exit then reboot .
